A Skeleton in the Family
Leigh Perry
The Silver Path - Ester Phillips The protagonist in this story, Mary, was totally defeated and unwilling to make any changes that might improve her life. Yeah I get that her husband just died and that their marriage was unfullfilling but unless you're dead then you still have time to make some changes. I didn't understand why she kept saying it was too late for her to find the happiness her husband did with his extramarital relationship. Mary was just a very unsympathetic character. If you don't like something then make a change, and what better time for that change than when your husband is finally dead and you're free of the marriage you never wanted? Over all I did like the story and the sense of loss over what might have been. While the story is short it still manages to resonate. I just wish Mary had more of a back bone. ;)
